Caption	As Texas celebrates its Centennial, Houstonians will derive much inspiration from these pictures of the three intrepid brothers who founded Houston, the equally-famous man who""laid out" the city, and the first steamship to make the voyage here from Harrisburg. John K. Allen, lower right, was the "captain" of the far-sighted trio that included S. L. Allen and A. C. Allen, all vigorous frontiersmen and builders. Gail Borden , titular head of a proud family dynasty that is known nationally to this day, surveyed the wisely-selected site for the brothers Allen. The drawing is of the steamship Laura, which, it is recorded, took four days to make the tortuous 16-mile trip from Harrisburg to the newly-founded town, inaugurating regular service which was to continue for many years.
