Union Station 501 Crawford. In use by 1910. (1910-1911) Architects Warren & Westmore of New York. C-15 Union Station, 401 Texas Avenue. At one time one of the busiest locations in Houston (with 40 passenger trains arriving and departing daily), Union Station now is almost deserted, with very little left which is reminiscent of its former role in the commerce and industry of the area. A three-story building on the east side of Crawford between Texas and Prairie was erected in 1909 and opened 1910. In 1912, two additional stories were added to the Doric structure. The building now is occupied by the headquarters of Houston Belt & Railway CO. and other railway offices. |
