Caption	Engagement of Anastasia Markou and George Caridas. This was a really big deal! The blessing and party was held at a local hall, and the wedding was in September of 1938. The priest was Fr. Nanopoulos. Mostly Patmians attended the engagement. The table has Koufeta (favors of candy-coated almonds) and sweets. Actually this ceremony, the betrothal is now part of the wedding ceremony, but at this time the two parts - the betrothal, where the couple exchanges rings and the wedding, where the stefana (wreaths of flowers) are placed on their heads, were two separate ceremonies.
