Caption	Epiphany celebration in the front of city hall in the early 1940s. A cross was thrown into the pool and the boys in the photo would dive in to retrieve it. Epiphany is a very important celebration in the Greek Orthodox church. It commemorated when Christ was "made manifest" in his baptism by John the Baptist. See the Gospel, probably the beginning of Mark. The Holy Spirit descended "in the form of a dove" and a voice said, "This is my son, in whom I am well pleased." Epiphany is celebrated on January 7th. The "cross toss" is still held, now at the Greek Orthodox Community Center, if the weather is not too bitterly cold.
