Abstract |
A collection of radio addresses from Mayor Oscar Holcombe. Mayor Holcombe gave some of these radio addresses in 1940 during his re-election campaign. He spoke about the achievements of the Holcombe Administration and the proposed projects concerning major highways and streets. Mayor Holcombe refuted statements made by his opponent and provided details on the importance of Houston to national defense during the war and addressed how the city's municipal services would be affected during war attacks or other military emergencies. The Mayor campaigned that his future plans called for increasing street lighting, making improvements to roads and parks, and improving sewage disposal facilities. Mayor Holcombe was endorsed by both the Houston Post and the Houston Chronicle. In 1936, Oscar Holcombe gave a radio speech when he was running for Congress against Albert Thomas. |
