Abstract |
Robert Young "Bob" Eckel's interest in politics started early, when got involved in the political aspect of teachers' organizations. In 1960 he was elected to the HISD Board. He ran for the Commisioner's Court and got elected. According to Eckels, his proudest accomplishment was the peaceful integration of HISD while he was in the School Board president. His leadership helped in installing traffic lights, parks and wide roads, potholes filled and ditches filled.He encouraged people to come to him and give ideas. Bob Eckels died in 1989. |
