DeAnda, Raul |
Abstract |
Born and raised in Dallas, Texas, Raul DeAnda came to Houston in 1967. Having obtained a degree in Business Administration, DeAnda worked at several large companies. His interest in social work led him to get a formal degree in Social Work. DeAnda was very much involved in the Mexican-American Educational Council, Mexican-American Urban League, and in the Office of Civil Rights. His aim was to reform the school system, improve the education of the Mexican-American children, and fight for desegregation in schools. In his interview DeAnda discusses his belief that due to numerous differences in language, customs, and culture, Mexican-Americans and Mexican Nationals face huge hurdles for complete integration into school system and society at large. |
