Abstract	Abe Lack, a Latvian immigrant, came to the United States in 1910. He and his family eventually settled in Tulsa, Oklahoma, by 1914. His early business ventures included a grocery store and an auto supply store. After a brief period in Florida real estate, he decided to start an auto parts business in the city of Houston in 1932. Even after the success of several stores, Lack still considered himself to be a small businessman, and maintained a strong preference and loyalty for small businesses. Mr. Lack believed more support and mentoring was necessary to help the entrepreneur and small business owners. In the interview, Mr. Lack discusses the lessons he gained from being in business during the Depression and through the changing business environment in the rapidly developing city of Houston, as well as his personal views about the Small Business Administration, the SCORE program, the generational differences of business owners, and the influence of big businesses.
