Abstract |
Billie Carr came from a family interested in politics. Her interest in politics started in 1950s, when she went to a meeting of the Steel Workers' Union of which her husband was the President, and saw the appalling living conditions of the Chicano workers living on the property of the then Governor. She supported the down-trodden, Blacks, Gays and women.A working Democrat all her life, she raised the Democratic Party to a major political power.The Godmother of Texas Liberals, Billie Carr died at the age of 74 in 2002. |
