Abstract |
E. J. Garcia was born in San Antonio and moved to Houston in 1919 to work in the oil industry. Starting in 1925, he worked as an insurance agent for American National Insurance where he primarily sold life insurance policies to the Mexican-American community of Houston. Later on, Garcia also worked in the Goose Creek area and Fort Worth before returning to Houston. He describes his memories of World War I, the stock market crash of 1929, and the Great Depression and the impact of those events in Houston.
