County of Fayette
For and in consideration of the sum of one thousand dollars in U.S. Treasury notes paid me by William Friedlander, the receipt of [?] which is hereby acknowledge-ed, and which sum is first to be applied to the payment of the interest due upon debts reported as [?,owing] to [Ali?] [E?] by said Friedlander in case of 1600 in the District Court of the Confederate States for the Western District of Texas at Austin Texas, and the balance, if any, to be applied as a credit upon the principal of said debts, I hereby release unto said Friedlander the Negro slave Lucinda and so much and no more of the mortgage, executed by William Friedlander & Mrs. Friedlander & Bro on the 27th day of April 1863 as covers said negro Lucinda to secure said indebtedness and recorded in the in the [sic] Records for such instruments of said County of Fayette in Book R pages 224 & 225, deed to said mortgage, or said Record of the same, or a copy duly certified of either reference is here made for the full contents of said mortgage. Provided that the balance of said mortgage upon the other property [?] secured shall be valid and binding. Witness my hand on this the 17th day of June 1863. The words “the negro slave Lucinda and”, in one place and the words “as covers said negro Lucinda” in another place [interlined?].
