Adjutant and Inspector General’s Office,
Austin, October 6th 1863
I hereby certify that in the month of March A.D. 1862, a volunteer company was raised in Grimes county, under the requisition of the President upon the Governor of the State of Texas for 15,000 men for Confederate States Service, and that said Company was organized on the 26th day of said month by the election of James B. Stephenson as Captain, W. O. Fontaine as 1st Lieutenant, William [? Oliver ] as 2nd Lieutenant and Robert J. Samuel as [? -] 2nd Lieutenant, as per official [? Report of] Brig Genl J. G. McDonald commdg 17th Brigade [? T. S. T.] now on file in this office.
