The state of Texas
County of Dallas
Know all men by these present that I, O. W. Knight of the County of Dallas, & State of Texas, do by these presents, for and in consideration of the sum of [page damaged] dollars to me in hand paid the receipt where of is hereby acknowledged, grant bargain, sell, convey & deliver unto S. S. Jones, F. W. Dunaway and Alex. Simon a certain negro man (a slave) named William, (usually called “Bill”) black complection, aged about 35 years, warrant sound in mind & body & a slave for life. To have & to hold sd [said] slave “Bill” unto the sd [said] Jones, Dunaway, & Simon their heirs or assigns against the claim or claims of any & all persons whatsoever-
Witness my hand this the 11th day of April AD 1861—
