Thomas M. Bagby came to Houston in 1837.
He was closely associated with the founders of the
City and with the builders of the Republic of Texas.
In 1846 he bought block 147 - now occupied by the
C ity Library.
In 1848 he was married to Miss Mariana Baker.
In 1852 they built their home on block 147 and the
family resided there until October, 1922, when it was
secured for the Public Library.
The descendants of the family are greatly pleased
to have a Library so beneficial and helpful to occupy the
site of the family home. A Public Library is a great
help to those seeking volumes for scientific and varied
subjects and a real pleasure to all lovers of books.
